Unique Christmas Decorating Ideas

Christmas decorating ideas, for almost all people, would be normally limited to making the dining-room table look beautiful and decorating the lounge and the Christmas tree. But, what when you have to ask family or friends to stay for holiday season, or throw a Christmas party? Then, extending your decorations to incorporate the rest of your home is well worth the extra effort.

The hall is the place where people tend to assemble during big parties and in many cases is the place where we welcome gusts, which makes it the apparent area for extra decorative displays. A few simple touches would be more than enough to generate the right atmosphere - so, there is no need to put together anything especially elaborate or lavish. Just surround the fat church candles with berries and foliage to generate a warm and welcoming atmosphere and place the candles of varying heights in a big shallow dish on the hall table. Hanging a large bunch of mistletoe close to the front door and decorating pictures and mirrors with swags of greenery would be a nice touch too.

Small bowls of seasonal nuts, fruits and wrapped candies not only look beautiful but are useful to have available for impromptu gatherings. What would give your private home an air of being all dressed up for visitors are pots of strongly scented winter flower bulbs, something like hyacinths and cyclamen, that you can place on windowsills, landings, and even in the bathroom.

When there's a party in your home, kitchen seems to be attracting your guests like a magnet, and yet, it can often be overlooked in the case of Christmas decorating ideas. However, kitchen decorations need to be kept to a minimum because of its more functional role. You can simply suspend colored baubles from the hooks on a dresser, which will look pretty and add to the sense of the occasion.

You can extend your living-room decorations to the kitchen area, in case your kitchen is part of the open-plan space, by putting a large vase of sculptural twigs hung with glossy red berries or stringing a few twinkling lights along the shelves.

Another great way to spruce up the spare room is to use decorations similar to those on the Christmas tree to generate a small garland that you can hang above the mirror, tie to the handle of the closet, or place on the mantelpiece.

You can also put aromatically scented candles surrounded by circlets of evergreen foliage on them to decorate bedside tables and dressing table. A great alternative to lavender pillows and small dishes of traditional potpourri would be handmade organza Christmas stockings filled with spicy potpourri.

Among Christmas decorating ideas for your bedroom, adorning the mantelpiece, when you have one, would be the apparent choice. All that you need is some scented candles that you can mix with selected Christmas decorations to remind you first thing in the morning that Christmas is on its way.
